Sherri is a senior at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. She was Valedictorian of her pre-school class, and continued to strive for educational excellence in middle school, where she was a member of the Junior National Honor Society. Graduating an honor student, Sherri received an Advanced Studies diploma from Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. While there, she was involved in a myriad of activities such as the Symphonic Band and Cooperative Hampton Roads Organization for Minorities in Engineering (CHROME). Serving as co-captain of the Varsity Basketball and Track and Field teams, Sherri earned numerous letters and medals in competition, including Most Valuable Player in Track and Summer League Basketball, an Award of Excellence for State competition in High Jump, and the Coach’s Award for Basketball. She also was a representative of Deep Creek High in the Chesapeake Student Leadership Forum, coordinated by former Virginia State Senator Randy Forbes. In pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in History with certification in teaching on the secondary level, her academic success and motivation has led her to a 3.5 grade point average. As a result, she has been recognized as a Dean’s List and Honor Roll student and has been awarded membership in the Spartan Alpha Tau Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society where she serves as vice president, and Golden Key International Honor Society whose membership includes U.S. Presidents and Nobel Prize winners. Sherri is also the recipient of the History Department’s Colvin Gibson Scholarship Award. Her goal is to begin a career teaching history or government while seeking a degree in law. Sherri will graduate from Norfolk State University in December 2002. Outside of academics, she is involved in many community activities. She has volunteered to help feed the homeless at Oasis Social Ministries, assisted in the National Depression Screening Day at Norfolk State, raised funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, and personally tutored a student having difficulty with college level Algebra. Currently, she is employed as a telephone order representative for a major home shopping network, a temporary office assistant at two local temp agencies, and she runs her own crafts business called “GoldBricks.” |
